“Folksounds Elmstein” is a non-profit initiative of the Friends of Nature (Naturfreunde) LudwigshafenAs charitable association, the 'Friends of Nature, local group Ludwigshafen' (Naturfreunde Ortsgruppe Ludwigshafen) are not allowed to make profits, which would not be used according to the conditions as states in their standing rules (Satzung), like e.g. for the 'Promotion of musical and cultural activities'. The standing rules of the association can be viewed here (in German): http://www.naturfreunde-ludwigshafen.de/satzung/. for the promotion of European folk music.
Under this umbrella, lectures and concerts in the Naturfreundehaus Elmstein in Rhineland Palatinate, Germany take place, nature and extent of activities may develop in multiple directions, as required.
Winter Workshops 2017
These are the classes currently offered for the Winter Workshops 2017:
One focus is again on old German folk music, including an extension back in time with the course “Songs from the Middle Ages”. From across the Atlantic Ocean we will have “Old Time Music” and “Native American Meditation Flute” as valuable contributions to the other European folk music classes. For the first time we also offer an insight into general vocal coaching through the “Complete Vocal Technique (CVT)” workshop.
Please remember — it’s Christmas soon, you may ask to get a workshop participation as a Christmas gift, or give it to someone you love as a present. We have prepared nice certificates! The event is not too far from Christmas 🙂
A New Initiative: The Folksounds Transatlantic Workshops
As the name implies, the Transatlantic Workshops are, comparable to the famous BBC series “Transatlantic Sessions”, an attempt to put folk music genres from the American continent side by side to their roots in European folk music.
Like the other Folksounds events, the Transatlantic Workshops offer courses, concerts, and sessions in a 4 days timeframe at the Naturfreundehaus in Elmstein/Germany. In focus are significant instruments, like e.g. fiddle, banjo, resonator guitar, guitar, mandolin, and (sub)genres of American folk music, like e.g. cajun music, old-time music, or swamp blues. Depending of participants’ needs, the focus might be extended or shifted. As usual, all workshops will only take place if ‘enough’ participants have subscribed to a workshop, decisions are made by the teachers.
The Transatlantic Workshops are not fixed to a specific timing within the year, like e.g. the Winter Workshops. The first Transatlantic Workshops are scheduled for September 28th to October 1st, 2017 (honestly, I do not want to step on someone’s feets, my apologies if there is a conflict with another event at the same time, this was just a free weekend at the Naturfreundehaus!).
Stay tuned for more details of the first Transatlantic Workshops event — please reserve the date in your calendar.
Yet Another New Initiative: The Folksounds Band Workshops
At the Folksounds Band Workshops (possibly) all members of a selected band are teachers. The offered classes are centered around the specific way the band uses instruments and assembles typical arrangements.
Like the other Folksounds events, the Band Workshops offer courses, concerts, and sessions in a 4 days timeframe at the Naturfreundehaus in Elmstein/Germany. As usual, all workshops will only take place if ‘enough’ participants have subscribed to the workshops, decisions are made by the band.
The Band Workshops are not fixed to a specific timing within the year, like e.g. the Winter Workshops.
The first Band Workshops are centered around the band “HüSCH!” (see www.songs-of-heimat.de), scheduled for October 12th to 15th, 2017.
Stay tuned for more details — please reserve the date in your calendar.
All events under the Folksounds Elmstein umbrella are open to international participants, generally, English-speaking participants are always welcome, especially we would like to encourage our neighbors in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands to take part.
